Steel Chair

Design intent was cultivated from a collection of local manufacturers in the upstate New York region including Stickley of Syracuse, Offi of Corning, Icon Furniture of Leroy. Chair designs needed to incorporate the Process, Production, Brand and Style that targeted current and future markets of these producers.

“… creating simple, beautiful and practical furnishings that address the modern urban lifestyle. OFFI products are created to be multifunctional, comfortable, and at home in any modern home in the world.”
-Offi & Company

My chiar was selected as one of the pieces to be presented for the Syracuse University Industrial & Interaction Design/Interior Design Submissions at the 2016 International Contemporary Furniture Fair held in New York City.

In the process of making a prototype scale form for fiberglassing the chair, the vison of the mold being the seating object instead of the fiberglass product took over for the material of choice. the seat was able to be constructed from a single piece of steel that would be bent and welded to meet its final form. The legs are 11mm steel tube that is bent and welded to create the structure of the frame and suspend the seat in the air.
